Artists (painters, musicians, actors and other performers, dancers, writers, poets, sculptors, etc.) are healers. But the world cannot receive the healing that art offers them if the artists themselves are spiritually (and otherwise) undernourished. The creative process often involves solitary effort in environments, a cultural milieu, and institutions that range from indifference to outright hostility. No wonder artists can get discouraged!
Awakening the Muse groups help provide the tools and energy to leap the gap between thought and action in a safe, supportive, and dynamic atmosphere. Using the teachings of Julia Cameron (“The Artist’s Way”) Sanaya Roman (“Personal Power through Awareness,” etc.) and others, groups of six meet once a week for two hours. We make use of guided imagery, selected readings, constructive feedback, and (fun) homework, among other things.
``Jerry's creative breakthroughs class is beyond compare or description. I have never had such a unique and fruitful therapy small group experience before. I came to the class thinking how I could become more pro-active in my creative life and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could apply what I discovered there to many other aspects of my life. I have learned to be more receptive to the fusing of the subconscious and conscious minds. I have learned to embrace and nurture various inner 'selves' of my being which has helped me greatly in getting over my creative blocks. I now have more belief and confidence in what I do not only on a creative level but on an interpersonal level too. Jerry’s approach to therapy and self-help is filled with insights, humor, sensitivity, realism, and much more. I have always wanted to better my life by 'finding' myself and come closer to realizing my creative potential. Through Jerry and the group process, I'm finally getting there. Thanks!!!!!``

``After 4 weeks in Jerry's class, Awakening the Muse, I wrote and recorded the first song I've written in over a year. The class has made me feel more in touch with myself and my creativity, has helped me find time in my life to be creative and connected me to a wonderful group of supportive, positive artists. Jerry's patience, kindness and all around good vibes make this a class I am always looking forward to.``
